The Year of Virtual Reality Gaming

Posted by

2015 was a big year for virtual reality with many people experiencing virtual reality for the first time. Although it did start earlier than this with the likes of Oculus Rift, not many people had hands on experience with virtual reality, mainly down to the cost. In late 2014 Google released a cheap, portable alternative VR headset with their Google Cardboard. Since then many companies such as Samsung have released headsets for mobile phones.

Whilst these devices may not live up to the likes of Oculus Rift they still offer great enjoyment for a fraction of the price. The mobile VR world is growing everyday with thousands of apps currently on the market; a lot are free too. In our office we had some great fun playing apps like WAA!, Roller Coaster and Jurrasic VR using our very own headset.

Away from mobile VR, 2016 is going to be a big year for virtual reality. We will finally see the release of the long awaited Oculus Rift (Release: Q1 2016) and Sony’s PlayStation VR. Many people are looking forward to their release, including us, and the games look fantastic. There are many other companies releasing VR headsets too such as HTC (Vive) and Microsoft (Hololens) so 2016 looks very exciting for gamers.
