Qi (pronounced: Chi) is very clever, it can transfer electricity wirelessly. As dangerous as this may seem, it is actually quite safe. You need two things to make this work, first of all a phone that supports Qi charging. Some phones have it built-in when you buy them whereas others might need a thin adapter that fits in the battery compartment. This is pretty good as you are not having any bulk or weight added to your phone.
Secondly you need a charging mat, these come in all shapes and sizes so you will definitely find the right shape for you. You plug the charging mat in to your mains charger as you would with a phone and you can then leave it in place. When you want to charge your phone all you have to do is place your phone on the mat and bam! Charging! Super easy.
Seeing as you have to charge most modern smartphones every day or two there is a lot of wear and tear on the USB port. Qi charging can help prevent damage to the USB port as you will only ever need to use it to sync files up to your computer. Qi charging makes life easier for us all and is appearing in more and more handsets, make the most of the technology at your fingertips.
